How to Propagate Prayer Plant

You will need clean sharp scissors, a glass of room-temperature filtered water or a small pot with moist propagation mix, and optional rooting hormone.

1. 1 Identify a healthy stem with at least 2–3 leaves and a visible node (the point where leaves meet the stem).
2. 2 Use clean scissors to cut just below a node, making the cutting 4–6 inches long.
3. 3 Remove the lowest leaf to expose the node.
4. 4 Optional — dip the cut end in rooting hormone for faster rooting.
5. 5 Place the cutting in a glass of filtered water with the node submerged but no leaves touching water, OR insert directly into moist propagation mix with the node buried.
6. 6 Place in bright indirect light at 70–80°F (21–27°C).
7. 7 For water propagation, change the water every 5–7 days; for soil propagation, keep the mix lightly moist with a humidity tent (clear plastic bag) over the pot.
8. 8 Roots appear in 2–4 weeks; transfer water-rooted cuttings to soil once roots are 1–2 inches long.
